Standards-Compliant heating water quality for reliable system operation

When modernising large heating systems, the quality of the system water plays a crucial role. It not only affects heat transfer efficiency, but also the operational reliability and service life of the components used.

A recent project at Rosbacher Brunnen GmbH demonstrates how even large volumes of existing heating water can be treated efficiently and in accordance with applicable standards. As part of a system upgrade, around 30 m³ of existing system water were treated and adapted to the requirements of the modernised heating system.

Three of our Heaty Racun 300 Advanced Plus units were used for the project. Installation was carried out by the HVAC specialist company IWT Innovative Wärmetechnik from Sulzbach. The project was supported by our subsidiary HEATpower24 GmbH, which carried out the professional commissioning of the water treatment systems.

Heating water quality as the basis for modern system technology

Rosbacher Brunnen GmbH is one of Germany’s best-known mineral water producers and operates a high-performance heating plant at its site. As part of a system upgrade, the existing heating water had to be adapted to the requirements of the modernised system technology.

The aim was to achieve water quality in accordance with VDI 2035, creating the conditions for efficient and reliable long-term system operation.

The project was commissioned to IWT Innovative Wärmetechnik from Sulzbach. Founded in 2007, the company specialises in heating and thermal technology and focuses on high-quality and reliable solutions for its projects.

“Our customers usually replace their heating systems based on professional advice or because of technical defects,” explains Managing Director Bert Hülbusch. The company primarily works with heat generators from manufacturers such as Wolf and Fröling.

The right water quality is particularly important for modern heating systems. Hardness-forming substances, corrosion, sludge and magnetite can impair heat transfer, place additional stress on components and increase maintenance requirements.

For this reason, IWT bases its projects on the requirements of VDI 2035 and VDI 6044, taking water quality into account from the planning stage through to system implementation.

Efficient treatment of 30 m³ of existing system water

The particular challenge of the Rosbach project was the existing system water. Instead of filling a new system with treated water, the heating water already present in the system had to be treated accordingly following the system upgrade.

A total of around 30 m³ of heating water was treated using a bypass process. This allowed the existing water to remain in the system while being brought to the required quality.

Due to the large system volume, IWT opted for the parallel operation of three Heaty Racun 300 Advanced Plus units. This provided the required treatment capacity to process the large volume of water efficiently and within an economically viable timeframe.

In addition, two high-performance magnetite separators were used. They supported the cleaning of the system water and ensured effective removal of magnetite and other contaminants.

The Heaty Racun 300 Advanced Plus was developed for the professional treatment of large heating and cooling water systems. The mobile high-performance system enables standards-compliant water treatment directly at the installation and can be operated using a bypass process.

For larger systems, reliable and controlled treatment is just as important as the actual treatment capacity. The Heaty Racun 300 Advanced Plus continuously monitors water quality throughout the treatment process and supports reliable compliance with the specified conductivity values.

The intelligent system control keeps all relevant operating data visible at all times. At the same time, the high-performance pumping technology enables a high water flow rate – an important advantage when dealing with large system volumes.

In the Rosbacher project, operating three units in parallel made it possible to treat the existing water volume efficiently while adapting the treatment capacity to the size of the system.

Ease of use was also an important factor for the specialist contractor carrying out the work. The units can be integrated into existing heating systems and facilitate a structured process for treating existing system water.

The technology used also impressed the specialist contractor carrying out the work.

“What I particularly appreciate about the units is their high product quality and ease of use,” says Bert Hülbusch.

Especially on larger projects, intuitive operation makes work on site considerably easier. At the same time, controlled treatment processes ensure reproducible results and reliable water quality.

Combining the expertise of three partners

Three companies worked closely together to successfully implement the project.

We, UWS Technologie GmbH, provided the required technology for treating the large system volume with the Heaty Racun 300 Advanced Plus.

The practical implementation and installation were carried out by HVAC specialist company IWT Innovative Wärmetechnik from Sulzbach, contributing its extensive experience in heating and system engineering.

The project was supported by our subsidiary HEATpower24 GmbH, which professionally commissioned all three Heaty Racun 300 Advanced Plus units and configured them to meet the requirements of the system.

By combining the right water treatment technology, expertise in system engineering and professional commissioning, the water treatment process could be efficiently integrated into the overall system upgrade.

Conclusion: Reliable treatment of large system volumes

The project at Rosbacher Brunnen GmbH demonstrates that even large volumes of existing heating water can be treated efficiently and in accordance with applicable standards.

Using three Heaty Racun 300 Advanced Plus units operating in parallel, around 30 m³ of existing system water were treated using a bypass process. Two high-performance magnetite separators additionally supported the removal of contaminants from the system water.

This created suitable water quality for the modernised heating system – without having to completely replace the existing system water.

The project also demonstrates the important role of professional heating water treatment when modernising larger systems. It provides the basis for efficient operation, protects the installed system technology and supports reliable long-term system performance.
