If you simply fill them with tap water without checking it, you risk <strong>limescale damage, corrosion, magnetite sludge &#8211; and the failure of entire components in the long term<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The days of simply topping up with &#8220;any water&#8221; are over. Today:<br \/>\n<strong>Safe and standard-compliant operation is not possible without targeted heating water treatment.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>What happens without water treatment?<\/h2>\n<p>If you do without preparation, you open the door to problems for the technology in several places:<\/p>\n<h3>Limescale formation due to high water hardness<\/h3>\n<p>If hard water is filled in untreated, <strong>limescale deposits<\/strong> form when it heats up &#8211; preferably on heat exchangers, control valves and pipes.<br \/>\nResult: <strong>efficiency drops<\/strong>, condensing boilers run inefficiently, pumps have to work harder.<\/p>\n<h3>Corrosion due to oxygen ingress<\/h3>\n<p>Rust forms in combination with ferrous materials. Even small amounts of dissolved oxygen are enough to cause <strong>material erosion and brown sludge<\/strong> in the heating circuit.<br \/>\nConsequences: magnetite sludge, clogged valves, blocked pumps.<\/p>\n<h3>Incorrect pH value = material attack<\/h3>\n<p>Both too low and too high pH values have a negative effect on the system. The tolerance window quickly becomes critical, especially in mixed installations. Depending on the material, a range between 8.2 and 10 is recommended, and between 8.2 and 9 for aluminum.<\/p>\n<h3>High conductivity = electrochemical risk<\/h3>\n<p>Dissolved salts act as a &#8220;bridge&#8221; between different metals in the system &#8211; <strong>electrical potential differences and corrosion<\/strong> occur.<br \/>\nClassic example: Pitting corrosion on the aluminum heat exchanger despite apparently clean water.<\/p>\n<h2>VDI 2035 is not an option, but the standard<\/h2>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/uws-technologie.de\/en\/heating-water-vdi-2035\/\"><strong>VDI Guideline 2035<\/strong><\/a> formulates clear specifications for the quality of filling and make-up water:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Total hardness:<\/strong>\u00a0&lt;0.3 \u00b0dH<\/li>\n<li><strong>Conductivity:<\/strong> \u2264 100 \u00b5S\/cm<\/li>\n<li><strong>pH value:<\/strong> 8.2-10 depending on material, for aluminum 8.2 &#8211; 9<\/li>\n<li><strong>Oxygen:<\/strong> &lt;0.1 mg\/l (closed system)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you do not comply with these values, you <strong>risk losing your warranty<\/strong> &#8211; because most manufacturers base their conditions on these guidelines.<\/p>\n<h3>Why the topic is often underestimated<\/h3>\n<p>In practice, heating water is often treated as a &#8220;filling agent&#8221; &#8211; although it is the <strong>most important system component of all.<\/strong><br \/>\nAfter all, what good is the best system technology if the water in it promotes corrosion?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Typical problem areas:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>No water quality check during initial filling<\/li>\n<li>Replenishment via the normal domestic water connection<\/li>\n<li>No documentation of the parameters<\/li>\n<li>No regular follow-up checks during maintenance<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>In the event of damage, the heating engineer is responsible.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>What you can do as a specialist company<\/h2>\n<p>Professional heating water treatment is not rocket science &#8211;
